Desex Do Not Destroy

Adoption & Committment

We ask anyone considering adopting a feline friend to be mindful of the long-term commitment, responsibilities, and costs involved in caring for a cat which could live for 20 years or more!  Questions to ask yourself before adopting a cat or kitten.

  • Am I prepared to care for a cat that will be completely dependent on me for years to come?
  • Is there a chance a member of my household could be allergic to cats?
  • Does everyone in my household want a cat?
  • Is my living situation stable, non-violent, and secure?
  • Am I prepared to spend money on parasite treatments, medical check-ups and  yearly vaccinations?
  • What will I do if the cat needs expensive medical care?
  • What will I do with the cat if I want to travel?
  • Am I prepared to keep the cat indoors after dark?
  • Do I have cat friendly neighbours?
  • Do I live on a busy street where the cat will be killed by a car?
  • How will I cope if a cat or kitten scratches my furniture or curtains?
  • Am I prepared to spend time with my new cat or kitten and buy it toys for when I'm not home?
  • Are my children kind to animals or do they treat them like toys?
  • If I have a baby, will I have to get rid of the cat?

We like to make sure our cats and kittens are going to safe, loving homes and screen potential adopters. We ask you to bring identification with your name and address as well as an appropriate cat carrier.  In some cases we like to do a home inspection.

All cats and kittens over 3 months of age available for adoption have been desexed, litter trained, microchipped, vaccinated and treated for parasites.

Cats and kittens with white ears and pink noses are susceptible to sunburn and skin cancer. They will need to be adopted as indoor cats.

Kittens need to be kept indoors for at least two months then let out for short periods supervised. Never leave them out unsupervised. They are still babies and prone to mishaps resulting in death.

Kittens not yet desexed cost $120.   They will be microchipped and vaccinated. We can provide assistance with desexing costs when the kittens are 5-6 months old. This is the age female cats can get pregnant.

Desexed, vaccinated and microchipped cats cost $ 75 - $150, depending on our expenses with vet fees.
